Brendan Johnston: Darker Than Blue
Having mentioned Deep Purple, I should admit that I am a big fan. Why is that important? Well, I
have travelled pretty extensively to see some of their shows and have a large collection of their
music. Along with some friends of mine, I have hung out with the band on numerous occasions,
as well as various musicians who are associated with the band. The picture below was taken in
York, PA after the band's show there on the "Purpendicular" tour in 1996. When a group of fans
(including my friends Pete Dickinson next to me and
Damien DeSimone on the far right) got
together to pose for a picture, Deep Purple lead singer
Ian Gillan asked if he could join us.
The picture to the right is of one-time
Deep Purple bassist/vocalist
Glenn
Hughes with me, Damien, and Lewis
Beard. The three of us traveled to
Denver to see two shows Glenn was
doing. The next picture is of Glenn
performing that night.
Here's another blast from the past.
That's Damien (again) Big Jim (before
he diminished) and Ian Paice from
Deep Purple. This picture was taken
backstage at The Meadows in Hartford,
CT on the "Purpendicular" tour.
Here's a live one I took of Joe Satriani
in Boston. I met Joe a few years before
this (he asked me if he should join
Deep Purple!), but my picture with him
is far too embarrassing to put here.
