Brendan Johnston: "He's Out To The Pub..."
Between 1997 and 2006 I was responsible for band bookings and promotions for
Schmedley's Pub in Storrs CT. I got to know some great musicians and bands doing this,
and have also had the chance to work with bands that I am a fan of such as Erik
Narwhal and the Manatees and the Tony Lee Band. Not to mention I have been able to
book myself there on countless occasions.
..

I
was able to book a few major label acts at Schmedley's and we've were able to get
some good publicity in the local and state press. The coolest experience we had was
when through a band that I booked, Stick Man Boomerang, the Grammy winning hard
rock band
Living Colour actually came to do a "surprise" show. They played a short set
including Middle Man, Ignorance is Bliss, a song from the album they were recording at
the time, and a cover of Crosstown Traffic. The photos to the right show them playing
that night and posing with the Schmedley's crew after the show.

The articles below left ran in the
New London Day the week of the show. The article
below right was a review in the
Hartford Advocate. Other articles appeared in the
Willimantic Chronicle, and the Manchester Journal Inquirer.
On another occasion I booked an acoustic artist named Marie
Wilson. Marie is a popular artist in Australia and was doing a
U.S. tour in support of an album she had out on Atlantic Records.
The Chronicle newspaper of Willimantic did a cool article on her in
time for the show, and it was a great night for the Pub. Not to
mention it was wild to see her tour bus parked out front!

I also booked Northeast tours on two occasions for
Florida-based
Jill Towers, and both times she played
Schmedley's Pub. Jill has several CDs out on Forbidden Records,
and Ian Gillan from Deep Purple guested on her most recent
one,
Miserably Happy. On Jill's second appearance at
Schmedley's, I sat in on drums for three songs in her set. Check
out more details on the
Drums page.
