
Brendan Johnston (b.1984) Graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a degree in Art History before pursuing a career as an artist. He studied drawing, painting, and sculpture at the Harlem Studio of Art and The Grand Central Atelier in New York, from which he graduated in 2012. Working in several genres of painting, he has participated in gallery shows in New York, Boston and Los Angeles. In 2019, he was included in the BP Portrait Award and his painting ‘Arcus’ was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, and the Ulster Museum in Belfast.
Brendan has also achieved acclaim for his stone and terra cotta sculptures. In 2022, he received The Society of Portrait Sculptors’ First Place Prize for his stone carving ‘Tiburtinus II’. In 2023, he received the National Sculpture Society’s Second Place Prize for ‘Tiburtinus I’. He has also received several awards from the Salmagundi Club and the Art Renewal Center. He most recently exhibited work at the MEAM museum in Barcelona. Brendan is currently creating stone carvings in unusual and semiprecious stones, as well as making large scale oil paintings on stone panels.
